Intel Ireland Scoops Prestigious CSR Award!

Last night the eighth annual Chambers Ireland Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) awards were held in Dublin recognising leading business practice of companies, both large and small, from across Ireland.

The Awards are partnered with Business in the Community Ireland, sponsored by Arvato Bertelsmann and run in association with the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.

Intel Ireland received the European Year of the Volunteer Award at the event for its donation of over $1 million over the last 3 years through its Matching Grant Program which is aimed at motivating staff to engage in volunteering activities.

The Matching Grant project involves the matching of time spent by employees at organisations of their choice with a monetary benefit. For every hour that an employee volunteers Intel matches this with $10 dollars. This unique program ensures that hundreds of community organsiaitons across Ireland receive not only the vital assistance of monetary funds but the even greater gift of Intel employees’ time.

Speaking at the event last night, Ian Talbot, Chambers Ireland Chief Executive said, “This evening’s event and the individual efforts by each of the companies here tonight illustrate the positive work that is still taking place. Ireland has an opportunity to step out as a leader in the area of CSR, to show our commitment to the world in which we operate and to increase our credibility as a first-class place in which to do business.”

Also in attendance at the ceremony was Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government, Phil Hogan T.D. who commented, “I would like to offer my congratulations to all of tonight’s winners. My Department is delighted to support the recognition of CSR work being carried out in Ireland. I am truly encouraged that despite economic pressures, companies in Ireland are continuing to contribute to society by conducting business in a fair manner and embracing responsibility for social and environmental issues. The partnerships being forged between the business community and wider society reaffirms the commitment by many businesses to contribute to economic development while also integrating consideration for the community in their business operations.”
