On Monday June 13th Intel Security Cork launched a new scholarship program with Cork Institute of Technology (CIT).
The Intel Security office in Cork has had a long tradition of positive engagement with the local institute. The engineering teams take interns from CIT each summer, and a module, Software Localization, offered at undergraduate level, has been run at CIT since 2014 by staff from the Globalization department.

The most recent interaction with our friends from academia comes in the form of this new scholarship program.
The scholarship is in memory of Alejandro Andrade de la Flor (Alex), an ERASMUS student from the University of Alcala de Henares, Madrid, Spain, who interned with the Globalization team at Intel Security (then McAfee) from April to October 2008.
Alex completed his internship in early October 2008, and had only returned to Spain a few days before his untimely and sudden death on 29th October 2008 at the age of just 25.
The scholarship will be awarded to a second year Software Development student, and will apply to Year 3 and Year 4. The recipient of the scholarship may also be offered a summer internship at Intel Security Cork.
Speaking at the launch, CIT President Dr. Brendan Murphy praised the engagement between the institute and Intel Security, with this new scholarship being just one of many positive outcomes of this engagement over the past number of years. Dr. Murphy also commended Intel Security on its Corporate Social Responsibility.
Paul Walsh, VP Engineering Services and Intel Security Cork Site Leader echoed these statements, and also stressed the importance and value of the steady stream of talented interns and graduates that this special relationship has yielded.
At the start of each academic year, a student will be selected for the scholarship, and Intel Security and CIT are delighted that Alex’s parents will travel from Spain to Cork to present the award to the inaugural recipient this September.
