Intel volunteers complete project at Littlehill Rescue and Sanctuary completing various different projects to enhance the shelter facilities
Based in Kildare, Littlehill Rescue and Sanctuary undertakes to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, abused and neglected dogs, cats and horses. Recently, several ex-battery hens have been rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed. This charity is funded entirely by donations, and by the resources of its founder, Susan Anderson, who has worked tirelessly for the past 20+ years to make the world a better place for animals, and especially dogs, cats and horses.

Recently a group of volunteers from Intel Ireland visited the LittleHill facility as part of the Intel Involved Volunteer Program. The 25 volunteers, who are part of Intel’s Silicon Design team in Leixlip, completed vital work that will benefit LittleHill and more importantly all of the animals that are homed there. On the day of the project the volunteers split into a number of smaller teams and completed various different projects.
One major problem the shelter has encountered is that of weeding, which in turn means less food for the animals there and a higher cost to the charity. There is an organic way to solve the issue of this weeding through goats and sheep grazing the area however the fences that are used there to create paddocks for the animals were in a poor state.
This is where the volunteers came in and did a fantastic job of cutting back all of the grass around the fencing, removing the fencing and metal waste, inserting some new posts and also connecting electric fences to these posts. Over 1.5km of fencing was repaired or constructed on the day.
Another group of volunteers repaired two gates that were in poor condition while others took to the chicken run to improve the overall state by repairing posts and fencing wire and cut back over grown vegetation. Four new dog shelters were built from scratch by the volunteers as well as a new donkey shelter just in time for the winter.
Well done and thank you to all the volunteers who supported the project at LittleHill on the day and completed this vital work.
