A Great Day for Ducks!

  • Every year Intel Ireland selects signature charities and employees dedicate their efforts towards providing volunteer time and funds to the charity
  • For 2012 two charities, MS Ireland and Pieta House were selected in order to share the impact of the signature charity campaign
  • Today employees held the latest event in the charity campaign, a duck race with almost 600 plastics ducks being released into the local canal to see which one would cross the finish line first

Each year Intel Ireland selects two signature charities in order to give employees the opportunity to dedicate their efforts towards providing volunteer time and funds, raised through specially organised activities, to these chosen organisations.

For 2012, MS Ireland and Pieta House, were selected and employees have been taking part in numerous events during the year to date to raise funds and generate awareness in support of the two selected causes.

Throughout the year employees have been busy taking part in a variety of activities to raise money for and to provide support to the charity organisations.

The latest event in the campaign, a duck race, took place today with almost 600 plastics ducks being released into the local canal to see which one would cross the finish line first! For the last number of weeks employees had the opportunity to buy a duck and be in with a chance to win the race. Each duck carried a number that corresponded to an employee name and for the first ducks past the line there were a number of great prizes on offer for the owners.

Employees and their families braved the chilly afternoon to watch the canal fill with a sea of yellow ducks who made their way toward the finish line with some help in the right direction from volunteers from the local Salmon Leap Canoe club.

The event generated more than €3000 for the charity campaign and this will be combined with monies raised through other events with the total overall fundraising amount being revealed at the end of the year.

The duck race is the latest in a long list of events and activities which have taken place including a golfing classic, a canal walk challenge, campus fun run, charity cycle, cakes sales, shave or wax challenge and even a visit from the Sam Maguire cup for employee photo opportunities.
