Last week Intel Ireland hosted a special event in the RDS, Dublin to kick off celebrations of milestone for the company – its 25th Anniversary year.

The event, ‘the ‘Look Inside – 25 Years of Intel in Ireland’ took place in conjunction with the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition and brought together representatives from across the education and business community who were invited to the specially constructed Intel stand in the Technology Hall space at the exhibition.

Intel first began operating in Ireland in 1989 and over the past 2 decades has come to represent a diversity of activities across the spectrum of Intel business from advanced manufacturing technology to cutting edge research and design.

The event, which is the first in a series of yearlong activities to commemorate 25 years of Intel in Ireland, invited people to ‘Look Inside’ and experience Intel technology in action and to share in stories of what is remarkable; in Products, in People and in Intel.

The event was opened by Minister for Environment, Community & Local Government, Phil Hogan, who remarked on the significance of the presence of Intel in Ireland over the past 25 Years “Intel is the cornerstone of the Irish economy in relation to ICT and is a glowing example of how we as a country can compete on a global stage. Intel in Ireland has been characterised by evolution and growth demonstrating the capacity to work so successfully in the present but whilst thinking of the future. The Irish economy, the Irish government and indeed the Irish people are very proud of Intel’s achievements in Ireland and I would like to congratulate you on the beginning of this special anniversary year”.

Also speaking at the event was Intel Ireland General Manger Eamonn Sinnott who added “From modest beginnings in 1989 when we began with basic computer assembly to almost $8 billion invested today, Ireland has really become a wealth spring of innovation for Intel. Today we have more than 5,200 Intel employees across Ireland with our own vibrant Silicon Valley in Leixlip along with a diversity of other business operations dotted across the country. I am very proud of what Intel in Ireland has come to represent over the past 25 years as we have grown up alongside Ireland and I am excited to imagine what the next 25 years may hold”.

The event also included ‘Lightening Talks’ from a series of inspiring individuals who are combining human potential with technology to remarkable effect. These included presentations from Intel International Science Fair winner Jack Andraka and Katie Green and Carlye Rubin of international film production company Smoke and Apples.

The event was concluded with a short presentation from Intel’s Quark Engineering Manager Noel Murphy, who is one of the driving forces behind the new Intel Quark processor technology. This new technology family of low-power, small-core products, which are designed right here in Ireland, are positioned for exciting new markets such as Wearable’s and the Internet of Things.

This event was the first in a yearlong series of activities to mark Intel’s 25th Anniversary of operations in Ireland – further events will be taking place over the coming months in the lead up to the 25th Anniversary itself in November.
