Intel Employees Make a Difference this Christmas

Every year Intel Ireland organizes a range of functions to help those less fortunate in our local communities at Christmas. This year, however, we wanted to do something different.

On October 20th a team of 25 employees from all functions across the Intel site met to plan this years Christmas fundraising initiative. After focused discussions the “Intel Christmas for Kids, making a difference” campaign was initiated. The goals were clear and simple,

A.

Donate 1000 shoe-boxes to 15 charities including; Barnardos, Women’s Refuge,
Drug Rehab group, One Family & Inner city daycare centres.

B.

Raise €15, 000 to assist specific charities over the Christmas period
– St Vincent de Paul, Make a wish foundation, Crumlin Children’s hospital,
St John of God Celbridge & Irish Aid in Kenya.

What happened next ?

The 1000 shoebox target was blown away as the team delivered 1316 shoeboxes for dis-advantaged children during early December.

A Christmas Fair was held from November 22nd to 26th was targeted as the main fundraising event, and was a fantastic success!!!!

There were many highlights, from the bring & buy stall, remote control car racing, horse-racing, to skills testing at the basketball hoops, bean-bags and a penalty shoot-out. Other attractions like the ‘lost & found’, & Christmas card sales had great success too. A magnificent electronic games area also featured containing Wii, X box & laptop based games where adults became kids again under the umbrella of “supporting charity”. A daily raffle was held with excellent prizes donated by local businesses. The “throwing the wet sponge” event was the most popular at the Fair, with employees getting a chance to throw a few wet sponges at their “favourite” Intel person. At the closing event of the week Intel employees brought their kids in to visit Santa and take part in the Fair which proved hugely popular. It’s no surprise that the final total raised at the Christmas Fair was a fantastic €10,400.

The fundraising team identified other fundraising events. Shopping bags were packed on Saturday and Sunday Nov 22/23 by Intel employees at Tesco Extra in Maynooth. On December 10th a 2km ‘Turkey Trot’ around the Intel campus was carried out by almost 100 employees. Our innovative IT department developed a system where employees could pledge money over a defined period and they also created a web site where donated items were auctioned over a fourteen day period. These activities raised another €10k. Overall employees at Intel Ireland have raised over €20k to date and are on track to raise up to €25k to assist charities this Christmas.

Intel’s Ireland Fab Operations programme manager Paul Phelan, who was a part of the Christmas for Kids committee praised the dedication and generosity of his fellow employees, “This was a fantastic achievement, a real success for employees. We made a significant contribution to kids charities at Christmas with lots of fun and excitement along the way!!”
