Intel employees raise over €19,000 with annual charity cycle

Almost 200 employees take on charity cycle in support of 2020 Intel signature charity Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin

Each year Intel selects a signature charity for our employees to dedicate their combined efforts towards, providing volunteer time and funds raised through specially organised activities. For 2020, Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin were selected, and employees have been taking part in numerous events during the year to date to raise funds and generate awareness in support of the charity.

In what has now become a much-anticipated annual event, and one of the highlights of the yearlong activities, the Intel charity cycle took place last week. Usually employees come together on a chosen day to complete a cycle route but this year the event happened in a different way.

Employees were encouraged to complete their own individual cycles throughout the week taking in a distance and location of their choosing. Each employee was provided with a specially designed Intel cycling jersey that carried the charity logo. With pink being the colour of choice for 2020, the cyclists made a distinctive sight as they cycled routes all across Ireland. The jersey this year also included a special piece of text – Together Apart – to mark the uniqueness of the 2020 event that brought employees together in spirit, though physically apart.

In total, almost 200 people signed up to take part, which included employees based at the Intel campus in Leixlip, Co. Kildare as well as at the Intel sites in Shannon, Co. Clare and in Cork City.

Over the past number of weeks employees have been given plenty of support and helpful training tips as they prepared to take on their own cycle. A number of people also shared their own experiences of the annual event by way of encouraging others to take part.

This was the eleventh year of the Intel charity cycle and though this year presented some obvious challenges, employees once again demonstrated their commitment to our signature charity by coming out in great numbers to raise much needed funds.

Over €19,000 has been raised by the 200 people who took part this year. This will be combined with monies raised through other events with the total overall fundraising amount being revealed at the end of the year.

The 2020 signature charity, Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin, will also benefit from Intel’s unique initiative, the Matching Grants Program. The program motivates employees to engage in volunteerism by providing cash grants to the organisations where the employees volunteer their time.

Speaking about the 2020 charity cycle event, Intel Ireland General Manager, Eamonn Sinnott, said; “Despite the challenges of this year, we are so thrilled to continue to support Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin through activities such as this. The charity does such incredible work providing vital funds for CHI Crumlin and we are honoured to partner with them this year. I am very proud of each and every one of our employees who took on the cycle this year – though they each rose to the challenge individually, they were very much together in spirit”.

Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of the Children’s Health Foundation added; “time and again our supporters never cease to amaze me. We are absolutely delighted to hear about the Intel charity cycle, and the phenomenal response it has received from Intel employees with 200 signed up to do individual cycles. Thank you so much for doing whatever it takes for our little patients and their families. Over 150,000 children will pass through the doors of CHI at Crumlin every year. Some will arrive by ambulance, some will stay for a few hours, others for weeks, months or even years. Your support will ensure that ALL these children have the very best chance that world-class care, treatment and research can provide”.
