Despite the short spell of dismal weather, members of NTS Operations were out in full force doing their bit for the local community as part of the Intel Involved program.
The team of 8 started out at the Orchard behind the IR5 building on the Leixlip campus which is home to around 17 apple trees as well as a few plum and pear trees. The volunteers gave some much needed TLC to the area which is being restored this year through a series of projects.
After one hour the orchard was visually unrecognisable from the overgrown mess it was before. As the rain poured the only things to be brought down were the ivy and briars and certainly not the spirits of the dedicated team.
Next stop was Scoil Bhride, Leixlip, where 25 shrubs waited for their new homes in the surroundings of the school building. The team got stuck in within seconds, digging holes, weeding and planting as the pupils from Scoil Bhride peered out their classroom windows at the scatter of blue t-shirts in the playground.
Project coordinator, and new Intel Community co-op, Ashley Maybin believed the day was a great success, “The team were ready and raring to go and knew exactly what they had to do from the very beginning. They did a great job and didn’t let the bad weather wash away the fun. This was my first project and I was a little nervous but I am delighted with the work done at both the orchard and school which is all down to our committed NTS Operations team who I’m sure are very proud of themselves.”
